The Night Is Not For Sleeping

Just past midnight I come slipping through the door
I know you’re sleeping but I can’t ignore
Your quiet breathing and your silhouette sublime
The night is not for sleeping

I trace your thigh, your hip, your waist, your back, your neck, your lips
Caress your hair and I draw deep from that aroma there
I see you smile, it’s beautiful, you acquiesce
The night is not for sleeping

The minutes pass with our sin wrapped in our innocence
The world beyond these bedroom walls, does it even exist?
One frantic moment, we seal it a kiss
The night is not for sleeping

The memory of tonight’s been branded deep within my brain
The sweat, the sweet, I swear it’s there, I’ll never be the same
And then you whisper, babe, let’s do that again
The night is not for sleeping

The morning chill, it dances lightly cross your skin
I watch you sleeping and my mind begins to drift again
Your quiet breathing and your silhouette sublime
The night is not for sleeping
