Song – Baby I’ll Crawl

I wrote this last year (2017). The song is ultimately about unrequited love – or unrequited desire.

Although, more accurately, it may be a reflection of gratitude that any lover would give me time and attention… certainly, not expected.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It started with lyrics – I wrote the lines:

“I don’t expect yes for an answer
I don’t expect nothing at all
I don’t expect that I’ll be your lover
I don’t expect it but it’s all that I want”

In the last verse, I return to the last two lines of the first verse after a play on a gambling motif. I have to admit, I like it. Am I allowed to say that about my own writing?

“I’ve laid all my cards on the table
Rolled the dice and I’ve raised and I’ve called
I don’t expect that I’ll be your lover
I don’t expect it but it’s all that I want”

Here is a video from my office the other morning. The lyrics are in the video and can be found below.

Enjoy!

VERSE
I don’t expect yes for an answer
I don’t expect nothing at all
I don’t expect that I’ll be your lover
I don’t expect it but it’s all the I want

CHORUS
Baby I’m here.. and I’m ready
Baby I’m here and don’t you know
I’m like a moth flying into the fire
You’re pulling wings off so baby I’ll crawl
And give it my all

VERSE
When I close my eyes I see a vision
So don’t close me out and don’t close me in
We might try testing the waters
Baptized in that physical sin

VERSE
I’ve laid all my cards on the table
Rolled the dice and I’ve raised and I’ve called
And I don’t expect that I’ll be your lover
I don’t expect it but it’s all that I want
